Over time small changes that we make to our lifestyle can help reduce our waste, feel healthier and can make a difference to the environment. I started this blog to share how we can make better choices, one by one with the intention to live more eco-friendly lives. This blog is for those that live busy lives and want to make better choices that they can continue with in the long run.
It is widely accepted that the way that we live is not good for us or the planet. Governments and climate change think tank groups alone cannot reduce the damage being done to the earth. With the demands of busy lives and convenience of disposable and single use products easily available along with greenwashing and misleading marketing it can seem impossible to do anything about it. Extreme ‘greenies’ live in a way impractical or unattainable to most of us. We can feel overwhelmed and powerless to make a difference. One small change at a time has a cumulative effect and over time your carbon footprint reduces without you even noticing.
For the last few years I have started to change how we live, what products we buy and how to reduce our waste. I am near the beginning of my low waste journey and am learning as I go. Some of the changes our family has made include growing some vegetables, establishing a compost system, using reusable cloth nappies and wipes, preferring second hand clothes, toys and books just to mention a few. These are not game-changers but each one makes a difference.
I am Eddie and live in a small town in New Zealand with my husband and two children. I work a regular full time job and with young children spare time is limited so naturally there will be a balance between convenience and ‘making things from scratch’ in our household. An ‘all or nothing’ approach isn’t required and there is no judgement here so start small. Doing something positive and taking action is better than doing nothing.
